The creators of music should be celebrated every day, for opening new realms and soothing our senses with the tunes and melodies that are as good as magic.  How are they celebrated? The most obvious answer would be awards. There are a number of awards these godly beings are venerated with and the most famous being the Grammy awards. It was originally presented by The Recording Academy and symbolizes the recognition of music as a separate industry like Oscars is for films, tony awards for theatre and Emmy awards for television.

Artists with the most number of Grammys

Georg Solti

This Hungarian British artist conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for a time span of twenty two years. He has bagged 31 Grammy awards and in addition to that he was also awarded a Lifetime achievement award in 1996. His most renowned recording till date remains the complete set of Decca’s Wagner’s Der Ring des Niblelungen. He has the highest wins in the Classical field, with his last win being for Best Opera Recording for Wagner: Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg, 1997.

Quincy Jones

Known for his blues/jazz/funk appeal, he has won as many as 27 Grammy awards. His major breakthrough initiated with The Pawnbroker and the rest as they say is history. Some notable movies which marked his contributions include “The deadly affair”, “In the heat of the night”, “Walk, Don’t run”, “The getaway”. He also produced Mj’s famous “Thriller”, the album. He received the Grammy’s Legend Award in 1991. He won the best instrumental arrangement for “I can’t stop loving you”, best Instrumental jazz performance for “walking in space”, best pop instrumental performance for “Smack water jack”, for “Summer in the city”, “Dinorah, Dinorah”, two Grammys for “The dude” and many more.

Alison Krauss

She is the woman with the most number of Grammys- 27. She plays with her band Alison Krauss and the united station. Her first ever Grammy was in 1991 for “I’ve got that old feeling” followed by in 1993 for “Every time you say goodbye”. She has also won Grammys for “I know who holds tomorrow, baby now that I have found you”, “same old train.” the latest being in 2012 for “paper airplane” as the best bluegrass album.

Pierre Boulez

This French artist received his first two in 1968 and total 26 Grammys. Here is a fun fact, it happened on the same evening The Beatles won album of the year for Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. He has a tendency to recreate and revive earlier compositions; hence his body of original compositions is small. His famous compositions include Debussy- jeux, La mer, prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun, The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, Symphonie fantastique and Tristia by Berlioz, Symphony no.9 by Mahler and many more.

Vladimir Horowitz

He has won as many as 25. This Russian born American composer was especially known for his virtuoso technique and also by his tone color. He has won the Grammy award for best classical performance, best instrumental soloist with and without orchestra, the best classical album and a lifetime achievement award at 1990.

Stevie wonder

With 25 Grammy awards, this child prodigy broke records with singles like “Signed, Sealed, delivered I am yours”, “Superstition”, “Sir Duke”, “You are the Sunshine of my life” and albums like “songs in the key of life” and “Talking Book”.  His first Grammy was in 1973 for best R&B song for “Superstition”, followed by best pop vocal performance (male).  His last was in 2007 for “For Once in My Life”. He has also won a lifetime achievement award in 1996.

John Williams

He has been nominated for 67 Grammy awards winning as many as 23. He has composed music for various films include “Jaws” for which he won his first Grammy in 1975, “Star Wars”, “superman”, “Raiders of the lost ark”, “E.T.”, “Schindler’s List”, “the book thief” . He has also been nominated for his contributions to the Harry Potter soundtrack.

U2

We all remember U2 as the band which sang “With or without you.” it was Ross and Rachel’s song and remains the most famous one by this Irish rock band. they have won 22 Grammys for “The Joshua Tree”, “Desire”, “Where the streets have no name”, “City of Blinding lights” and many more.

Chick Corea

He revolutionized jazz music in the American scenario with compositions like “Spain”, “Windows”, “and 500 miles high”, “La Fiesta”. He has won awards for “The Leprechaun”, “Friends”, and the best jazz instrumental album in “The New Crystal Silence” amounting to  total of 22 Grammys.

Beyonce

All the single ladies! You can feel happy because she has won 22 Grammy Awards.  Her “Irreplaceable” and “Halo” are few of the best selling singles of all time. She is the second most honored female artist. Single ladies won song of the year in 2010. No surprises there! While “drunk in love”, “say my name” and “crazy in love” have won best R&B song. She has also won the highest number of Grammys in one night (female).
