Ajay-Atul had impressed us with the first two songs from the Super 30 soundtrack, and now the third song has gone ahead and done the same. ‘Basanti No Dance’ is sort of an anthem, the lyrics of which want to imply that just knowing English doesn’t make an individual an educated person. It has been sung by various artists, and pictured on the students that Hrithik Roshan’s character mentors with his special tuitions.

The video of ‘Basanti No Dance’ starts with his students worryingly complaining to him about not being able to compete with their richer counterparts due to their bad English speaking skills. This prompts Hrithik to declare that a street play will be held on the day of Holi. The title of the song is a reference to Sholay of course, even as the lyrics have the characters chanting, “Basanti no dance. In front of these dogs,” evoking the famous dialogue from the film, which went, “Basanti, in kutto ke saamne mat naachna.”

The rest of the song has many loose translations that add to the humour. Take for instance the lines, “They throwing eenta. We throwing rocks,” which refers to the Hindi proverb, “Eent ka jawaab patthar se.” Amitabh Bhattacharya’s brilliant lyrics also include a funny rap in between that ends up stealing the show. And then there are the actors who, with their performances, keep you hooked throughout.

‘Basanti No Dance’ is an absolute win for Ajay-Atul. They have really gone out for their skin for this one. Very few instruments have been used, and the track is especially notable for the portions that just use the banging of some benches as the music.

Super 30 stars Hrithik Roshan and Mrunal Thakur, along with Pankaj Tripathi, Nandish Singh and Amit Sadh. It is slated to release in theatres across India on July 12.
