A dance number that's forgettable at best

With Manikarnika going pretty steady at the box office, Zee Music has released a music video of the song Dankila from the film. The video features a dance performance being presented to the Queen of Jhansi, played by Kangana Ranaut. This track features the vocals of four different singers, and has of course been composed by the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Dankila is essentially a dance number with all the trappings of one. This is one song from the Manikarnika soundtrack that sticks out due to its lack of ingenuity. Even its lyrics fail to make much sense. However, the music directors have made sure to package it well with grand chorus arrangements and imposing percussions in the background.

Dankila has been sung by Prajakta Shukre, Shrinidhi Ghatate, Siddharth Mahadevan and Arunaja. They have all given their best in this song, and there’s no room for any complaints here. This video of this song has Ankita Lokhande and Vaibhav Tatwawaadi showcasing their dance moves, with Kangana joining them later on.

Manikarnika was released on January 25, and has been having a good run at the box office since that date. These past few days however, have brought it under the shadow of a big controversy over its direction credits. Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi was its sole director at first, but after Sonu Sood walked out of the film due to a spat with Kangana, she was forced to take over the reins of reshooting his parts owing to Jagarlamudi’s prior commitments elsewhere.

Jagarlamudi has alleged that Kangana had very little creative contribution to these reshoots, and this doesn’t warrant the appearance of her name ahead of his in the credits. A bitter spat between him and Kangana’s sister followed on Twitter, and there’s new details emerging out of the case every day.

Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi had one more film of his released this January in the form of N.T.R: Kathanayakudu. This biographical drama is a sequel to N.T.R: Mahanayakudu, and showcases the political journey of N. T. Rama Rao.
