A new song from the upcoming film Jabariya Jodi has been released via streaming channels. A music video for it has also been launched via YouTube, and it depicts the developing romance between the characters played by Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra. Called ‘Dhoonde Akhiyaan,’ this track has been composed by Tanishk Bagchi and sung by Yasser Desai and Altamash Faridi. Its lyrics have been penned by Rashmi Singh and Virag Mishra.

‘Dhoonde Akhiyaan,’ starts off with the short exchange between the two main characters. Sidharth’s character says to Parineeti’s, “Hum maangte nahi. Cheen lete hai,” alluding to his profession of kidnapping grooms. To this, Parineeti replies, “Cheenne ke jagah maang kar dekhe. Kya pata, cheenne ki jaroorat hi na pade.” This makes way for the song, which is backed beautifully by the tabla. Softly strumming strings provide support to it throughout.

It’s the lyrics however that failed to make sense to us. Take the chorus for instance. It goes, “Naino se naina takraaye. Na jaane kya dhoonde akhiyaan. Kaise tumhe ye samjhaaye. Na jaane kya doondhe akhiyaan.” The rest of the song’s lyrics aren’t this scruffy though. The song really picks up when it enters its qawwali phase, which has been expertly composed by Tanishk Bagchi. Yasser Desai and Altamash Faridi have rendered the song beautifully.

Jabariya Jodi has been directed by Prashant Singh while it’s being produced Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. Sanjeev K Jha is responsible for its script, which revolves around the practice of groom kidnapping that’s still prevalent in some parts of Bihar. Apart from Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra, it also stars Javed Jaffrey, Sanjay Mishra, Aparshakti Khurana, Ruslaan Mumtaz, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Sheeba Chaddha, among others.

Jabariya Jodi will be released in theatres across India on August 2. Its trailer has already been released online.
