A Kay has returned with his latest music video titled Hanju Digde, which is quite a departure from the kind of music he’s used to producing. It’s a sad song that is devoid of any hip-hop influence, and it has the singer talking about heartbreak, separation and misunderstandings in a relationship. The music video for this track also features Saanvi Dhiman.
Hanju Digde has been written completely in Punjabi. Its chorus line goes, “Hanju digde steering te aye, mein jadon tere shahron mudya.” This translates to, “Tears started streaming onto the steering wheel, when I drove into your city.” It further goes on to convey, “Sare akhde tu bhul gayi ae mainu. Meri nahio rooh mandi perh duniya di lagdi na changi jehde ch na tu labdi.” This can be translated as, “Everyone says you’ve forgotten me, but my soul can’t believe this. The sorrows of this world don’t feel good without you in them.”
The lyrics of this song have been beautifully penned by Jassi Lohka. It’s the music however, that’s very generic. Western Penduz has composed the song with pieces, beats and other knick-knacks that you’ll definitely feel you’ve heard a thousand times before. There’s no freshness to the whole affair. A Kay’s voice has really adapted itself to this kind of music though. It really holds the song together throughout the duration.
The music video featuring A Kay and Saanvi Dhiman is extremely passable. Directed by Sunny Dhinsey, it’s a collection of Punjabi music video clichés. Everything from a Lamborghini to a pitiable protagonist has been included here. Our hero A Kay is shown crying during most of the song, which is a bit cringy, to say the least. Overall, the video becomes a pain to watch after a certain point.
Umesh Karmawala, the presenter of Hanju Digde, said about the song, “A Kay is a brilliant singer, there’s no doubt about his talent. He is coming back after a sabbatical and we really hope that people will love Hanju Digde. This is a beautiful and soulful track, a bit different from A Kay’s go-to genre of hip-hop beat songs. Although he has sung soft numbers earlier, but this one is just a reminder that he can definitely switch between styles and is here to stay.”
