October Theme Music Highlights The Beauty Of Sadness

An excellent piece that will stir you up for sure

The promotions of October are on in full swing, even as the film’s music has started making its way onto streaming platforms. The first piece that has been released is actually the film’s theme, and it sure is a sign of things to come. The music has been beautifully crafted to reflect the grief that befalls the characters in the story.

The soundtrack for October has been composed by Shantanu Moitra, and he seems to be at his brilliant best this time. Written by highly acclaimed writer Juhi Chaturvedi, October is being described by its makers as a film that’s ‘not a love story, but a story about love.’ The theme music tries to stick by this assertion by creating a distinct mood.

And it sure does a good job at filling you up with emotions. The harmonious use of the harp and the violin stirs you up unexpectedly. Rarely do the two instruments come together and not invoke some tears, and listening to the October theme music definitely did that for me.

As much credit as is due for Shantanu Moitra, an equal amount is also deserved by musicians who have contributed to his song, especially Rohan Roy who plays the violin and Sophia Kiprskaya who is on the harp. The October theme truly is a grand musical arrangement.

A music video featuring behind-the-scenes shots of the recordings, punctuated by shots from the film, has also been released on YouTube. The movie stars Varun Dhawan along with debutant Banita Sandhu. It is of course being directed by Shoojit Sircar, and marks the fourth collaboration between him and Juhi Chaturvedi.

The first time they came together was for Vicky Donor, an audacious and responsibly conveyed story about sperm donation. Their next project together was Madras Café, a spy thriller revolving around the Sri Lankan civil war and the assassination of former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. And their last outing was of course Piku, the Irrfan, Deepika and Amitabh starrer that told the story of a father and daughter who are stuck with each other.

October is slated to hit theatres on April 13.
