Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s upcoming film Kabir Singh has just had its second original song released in the form of ‘Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage.’ This one’s an Arijit Singh number that has been composed by Mithoon, with its lyrics too having been written by the latter. The song’s video is a sharp contrast to what we’ve seen in the trailer, as Shahid Kapoor’s character is shown all sobered up for a change. However, it doesn’t take long for this to change, as he is defeated by his urge to drink by the time the song ends.

‘Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage’ is an emotional ballad that has been beautifully written by Mithoon. It has a lover conveying his undying love to someone who isn’t with him anymore. The song opens with the lines, “Dil ka dariya beh hi gaya. Ishq ibadat ban hi gaya. Khud ko mujhe tu sonp de. Meri zaroorat tu ban gaya.” The chorus is also evocative; it goes, “Tere saath ho jayenge khatam. Tujhe kitna chahne lage hum.”

The pair of Mithoon and Arijit has given us the smash hit that was Tum Hi Ho from 2013’s Aashiqui 2. This song falls in the same genre as that one, and the two artists have managed to recreate a similar kind of magic here. The song grows on you after a couple of listens, and always manages to move you with its lyrics and its atmosphere.

The first song to have been released from the Kabir Singh soundtrack was Bekhayali, a Sachet-Paramparacomposition, which didn’t impress much, but had very inspired lyrics. This film is a remake of the Telugu hit Arjun Reddy from 2017. It stars Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor, and has its story revolve around a doctor who goes on a self-destructive path after his ex-lover marries someone else.

June 21 is when Kabir Singh will be hitting screens across India.
