How To Break Up Without Breaking A Heart

The breakup chat: How to do it without causing too much hurt

No breakup is smooth, even when they say it is amicable.

If you’ve loved someone, it’s best that you hurt them as less as possible when you want to break up.

While it will cause hurt and upset the one being dumped, you can always do this in a way that will be the least hurtful, both emotionally and mentally.

Here are a few ways that can make this decision a little less painful for you both:

If this is just a new date, move away slowly

If you are still just in the dating phase and things have not moved on to a really serious stage, you can still move out of this one and let it fizzle out. However, don’t be too sudden, because the other person might already be having feelings. Be less responsive to messages, stop sending updates and pictures, and stop initiating conversation on message or on call.

Don’t try and give them reasons to end it

Many people feel it’s best to bring on a bad side so that the other person will want to break up and end it. This is just your way of manipulating their emotions and is absolutely wrong. Not only will it make them feel conflicted and confused, it will make you feel guilty and make it more difficult for you to easily move on.

Be human, don’t do text breakup

No one deserves a phone breakup, no matter how much you hate them. It’s the easiest way for you to avoid any tears and explanations, but it is also one of the most disrespectful ways in which you can behave with someone who is in love with you.

Speak about it, don’t give hints

The easiest way to share what you feel and why is to talk about it to your partner. Of course it won’t be easy, especially when the other person still wants to be with you, but you owe this much to a person who invested their heart and time in you.

Be honest

Whatever your reason, don’t beat around the bush but be honest. This is especially important if you’ve been in this for long, and your partner may be able to figure out when you’re lying. Whether you found someone else or want to move on for any other reason, just tell it as it is.
