When we read and hear about so much happening in the news, about crime against women, about India being unsafe for women etc. it kind of breaks our heart because there are so many beautiful places for people and us to visit and see in our country. People, especially those solo travelers coming from abroad, are skeptical about visiting India alone but here’s the good news, there are still some places in India that are considered absolutely safe for solo female travelers and not only that, these places have their own undoubted charm. Here’s a list:
1.Puducherry(Pondicherry)
Beautifully cobbled roads, colonial style homes that are painted a sunny yellow and pure clean air sounds surreal doesn’t it? But that’s what Puducherry is, it’s a beautiful surreal place to be in. There is a strong French influence on the culture, language, and food there. There’s a lot to see around from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram to the churches, Puducherry museum, Goubert Ave/beach road etc. The people here are helpful and friendly making it the best place for solo women travelers.

2. Hampi
If you are a solo woman traveler who likes historical places, Hampi is the place to visit. Hampi has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s a great place for backpackers because of the cheap accommodation, friendly people. The people here are simple but culturally rich. The Nandi Statue, Elephant Stables, Hemakuta Hill, Zenana Enclosure, and the Queen’s Bath etc. are some of the tourist attractions in Hampi. Also, don’t forget to take a ferry ride in the river Tungabhadra.
3. Munnar
Beautiful green hills, tranquil and a rustic charm, that’s what I would say if I had to describe Munnar in a few words. It’s a place that’s far away from the maddening crowds and that makes it peaceful and quiet so if that is what you’re looking for Munna it is. It’s also a great place to go cycling, trekking and hiking and all this can be done without anyone bothering you especially the touts you find in most tourist destinations. People in Munnar are warm and friendly and Kerala is one of the safest places for solo female travelers.The tea museum, Mattupetty, and Pallivasal are some of the tourist attractions which are a must visit.

4. Nainital
The Kumaoni people are known for their warmth and helpfulness. It’s also known as the Lake City because of the lake that is in the center f this small hill station. Surrounded by nature, even though there is not really much to see here, one can enjoy the beauty of the place and it’s an ideal place to go to for some peace and quiet.The main tourist attractions here are the Tiffin Top, Bhimtal, Naukuchiyatal, Saattal, Lover’s Point, Ropeway (Cable Car), Nanda Devi Temple and of course the Corbett National Park.
5. Udaipur
Udaipur is said to be one of those cities in Rajasthan that is safe for women. The people here are hospitable and friendly It’s also one of the most romantic places in India, so there are chances that you might suddenly start missing your significant other or if you’re single you might just want to fall in love! Udaipur is surrounded by beautiful like the Lake Palace, City Palace, Sajjan Garh/ Monsoon Palace, Bagore ki Haveli, etc. besides the palaces, the other tourist attractions are the Sunset Point & Machla Magra, Lake Pichola, Ahar Museum, Fateh Sagar Lake, and Jag Mandir etc. Also, don’t miss the heritage walk.

7. Ziro Valley
Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh is one of the most picturesque places in India, a place that you should definitely add to your bucket list. Other than its natural beauty it is interesting to see the lifestyle of the local tribes there. The only problem is the people might be a little wary of tourists and sometimes a bit unfriendly too so it’s a good idea to take a local guide along but when it comes to safety, it is absolutely safe as women are highly respected here. The major tourist attractions here are; Hari, Ziro Putu, Talley Valley, Tarin Fish Farm, Dolo Mando, Tapyo Salt and the Shiva Lingam at Kardo Forest etc. Don’t miss interacting with the people of the Apatani Tribe.
