I’ve always loved lighthouses, even more after watching the romantic scene at the lighthouse in the movie 50 First Dates and the proposal scene from How I Met your Mother Season 9.

Somehow I always find lighthouses so romantic! If you’re like me and have always dreamed of seeing a lighthouse up close, here’s your chance and the best part is some of the prettiest ones are right here in our country!

Pamban Island

The Pamban Lighthouse is something you just can’t miss if you are in the Pamban Island located between peninsular India and Sri Lanka and also called Rameshwaram Island. It’s a beautiful structure with a bright red top and black and white blocks surrounded by lush greenery and the serene beach.

Manapad Beach

One can enjoy an amazing view from here

The Manapad beach is known more for the Holy Cross Church and is otherwise unexplored. Located in a small coastal village in Tamil Nadu. The lighthouse here is a beautiful red and white and one can enjoy an amazing view from here.

Dwarka

What is unique about this lighthouse is that instead of the usual white and red, this one is a black and white

Located at Rupen Creek, the Dwarka Lighthouse dates back to the 19th century. What is unique about this lighthouse is that instead of the usual white and red, this one is a black and white cubical structure. It looks beautiful, especially in the night.

This Lighthouse Beach is in Kovalam and it is one of the most beautiful sights. Situated on top of a rocky mountain, it is surrounded by lush of greenery. While it looks beautiful during the day, it looks even better at night.

Kaup Beach

The lighthouse at Kaup Beach which is located in Muloor in Karnataka is untouched and quiet and the beautiful lighthouse here only adds up to the charm. The view of the Arabian Sea from the top of the lighthouse is stunning.

Goa

Unlike the other lighthouses one cannot climb up to the top of the lighthouse

The Aguada Fort has a rich history behind it and this is also where the beautiful white cylindrical lighthouse is situated. Unlike the other lighthouses one cannot climb up to the top of the lighthouse but the structure itself is worth seeing.

Mamallapuram

One of the many historical monuments at Mamallapuram which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site is the Mamallapuram Lighthouse, built on top of the small hillocks, and surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Bay of Bengal.

It is said that; “Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island, looking for boats to save. They just stand there shining!” Pack your bags and go see these lighthouses shedding their radiance!
