Flight delays can be one of the most frustrating things. While you are stuck up at a confined place awaiting to board and fly to your destination, the frustration and uncertainty builds up slowly. However, if you are a little prepared, you might keep cool during such situations. Let’s say it out: Flight delays are such a common phenomenon these days.

Provide Proper Contact Information While Booking Tickets

Airlines usually inform passengers these days of any delays, if not for last minute ones. Provide correct contact details while booking tickets, so that they can contact you in cases of delays.

Know The Weather Conditions

On the day of travelling or before, check the weather conditions of the departing and arriving locations. Call the airlines and know of any cancellations or expected delays. If there are, then plan the rest of your schedule accordingly.

Keep A Plan B Ready

Although it is not always true that planning an alternate option is feasible, still you could try some. For instance, you could try commuting from other nearby airports if the situation permits. You could also try to find a ticket with a different airline, if you really have to be to a place at a particular time.

Be Ready For Unforeseen Situations

Mentally prepare yourself about the unforeseen delays. If it is that you are going to be somewhere for an important occasion, try to reach a day or two earlier. That way you will have ample time in hand even if your flight is delayed or cancelled.

Keep Your Phones Charged And Close Ones Informed

When there is a delay of flight, the frustration that we go through often makes us forget that we have family and friends who are equally worried for us. Keep them informed. Remember to keep your phones charged. Carry a power bank, and try to use your phone only when necessary.

Turn To Social Media

Try talking with the ground staff and get details of the delay – how long would it take, when is the next deciding announcement made. If you do not receive a cooperating behaviour from the airline people, tweet them with relevant hashtags. Airlines are scared of social media shaming. The airlines usually respond or take an action immediately. However, keep away from using foul language. Remember that polished word have a stronger impact.

Carry Some Food And Water

This one might seem dumb, unless you are hauled-up at smaller airports like the Port Blair Airport or the one at Leh. Airports like these are so small that if there is a delay for longer hours, the small food selling store there might run out of food while catering to the number of hauled-up passengers. So, it is a wise thing to keep some food handy when you are travelling.

Know Your Rights

Airlines are liable to pay a compensation or provide other facilities if there is a delay beyond scheduled departure. If there is a delay of less than 24 hours, the airline has to provide meals and refreshments to the hauled-up passengers. The passengers are also entitled to hotel accommodation and transfers by the airline if the delay exceeds 24 hours.

We cannot really do much about the flight delays and hours wasted in airports with uncertainty, but we can surely try to keep ourselves calm and be in a good mood when we reach our destination by following some of these things.
