Kibithu is the eastern-most motorable road in India in the North-Eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh on the Chinese border. If you love riding into the mountains, you will experience heaven here. Winding roads, clouds kissing the peaks, rivulets streaming down the hillsides, and grass billowing at your wheels. This is truly a paradise on the eastern edge of India.
After you leave Tawang, you have to keep driving on the single road that ends at the McMahon line, separating India from China. You can spend a night in the tiny hamlet of Walong. Kaho is not very far from Walong. It is situated only at a distance of 24 Kms and well connected by tar road. These parts saw the epic battle of India and China in 1962. And as you drive, you feel you have slid back into time, as the modern amenities of civilisation are left behind, and you enter the pure natural world.

Then you enter the Namti Valley. Studded with a pine forest, this divine panorama guards Kibithu. There is also a war memorial, standing alone amidst the rustic mountains.
As you continue driving east, the landscape starts changing. Now, there will be more pine trees and the mountain peaks of China start appearing large on the horizon. Before reaching Kibithu, you can take a diversion towards another beautiful hamlet, called Kaho. You will also get a chance to meet the villagers in Meshai village.

Another interesting feature here is the suspended bamboo bridges, that act as lifelines between the villages. Crossing such a bridge over the Lohit river is another beautiful experience. The vista opens out wide into the valley, and you could spend hours here, lost in the gurgling noise of the river.

Kaho is a small village with a small handful of households. Situated on the bank of river Lohit, it is surrounded by mountain peaks. It even has a small monastery. From Kaho, you have to turn back to continue riding towards Kibithu.

Kaho and Kibithu are guarded by ITBP personnel. And you need special permits to ride on these roads. But the beauty here is very different from other Himalayan destinations. And if you want to explore the enchantments of Arunachal, you should definitely visit Kibithu.
