How To Pack Light And Yet Have Enough For Your Trip

5 packing hacks that will make it easier for you to travel light

The last thing you want when you travel often, or even while you are on your journey, is to have to carry a mountain of bags and luggage and trudge them along.

Trust me, that is one thing that can take away from the joy of the trip.

If it’s an overnight trip, it is easy to get all your stuff in a carry on and have it all in one backpack. But what if you are going on a longer trip, say for a week or ten days, and need way more stuff than fits in a small backpack?

Can you still travel light or do you need a number of bags to fit them all?

If you know how to pack the right items and know how to get multiple usesout of different things, you can actually cut down your travel gear significantly.

Get one big bag instead of taking out multiple ones

Visual interpretation can make a huge difference, and when you see one instead of say three bags, you know you really have to take only the essentials. It’s best to take one roomy bag than three cute ones.

Mix and match clothes for different looks

I often carry only one pair of jeans, one pair of shorts and a skirt even when I am going for a two week trip. The same jeans can be worn while travellingas well as at the destination. A dress can be a separate outfit and also double up as a top when tucked in (it’s possible, I do it a lot of times).

If you envy George Clooney’s way of travelling in style from Up In Air, remember to pack like him too.

Carry a bar of soap

Unless you are staying at one place for only a night, you can easily wash your clothes (if required) when you take a bath using a basic bar of soap. Rinse, hang and dry, wear again. For shoes, one walking pair and one pair of sandals is all you need.

Roll them up

No, not those papery things you may like to roll on a trip, but roll up your clothes when you pack, as this reduces the amount of space you would otherwise need.

A lipstick as an eye shadow or blush is a great way to do more with less product.

Minimum makeup for maximum use

Take products you can use in different ways, such as a lipstick you can wear on lips, cheeks and eyes, a perfumed moisturizer that reduces the need for a separate fragrance and so on.

One thing I would suggest you buy that can really help to keep your stuff neat and easy to use, and also reduce space use are travel pouches. These are zipped up bags in various sizes that can store anything from clothes to shoes to lingerie, makeup and more.
