How To Cheer Up On A Weekday

How to beat the boredom out of a long office week.

Do you feel that you are beaten down by the drudge of the routine Monday to Friday week? Do you feel that the daily work routine is sapping you out? Are you feeling closer to a burn out?

The first thing you need to do is ask yourself what’s wrong. Are you happy with the work and the organisation? If you were made to do the same work in a different setting, would the answer be different?

Instead of getting overwhelmed, you can break down the situation into parts and think about it rationally.

Sara Sutton Fell, CEO and founder of FlexJobs, suggests making a list of the things that are bringing you down in your job. “Maybe it’s a negative co-worker or a meeting with your boss first thing on Monday morning, or maybe it’s that you don’t feel challenged–or maybe it’s all of the above,” she says.

Also make a list of things that excite you. Alexander Kjerulf, an international author and speaker on happiness at work, suggests that along with a to do list, a like to do list can help to take some of the burden off. Along with the reports and presentations, and client meetings, also make a list of travel destination you want to visit, food you want to try, and what you plan for a wardrobe change.

Another necessary thing to cheer up for a workday is to completely unplug yourself from work over the weekend. Do not read the mails or messages, and not work calls. This will help you to take a real break away from work, and leave you more refreshed for the week.

Take a short break from work. Watch some fun and positive videos, or listen to some energising music. An afternoon nap has also proven to be good for mental health.

Most importantly, being passionate about your work is the best way to cheer up. Steve Job had built a cult of loving your job through creativity and innovation.

There is no alternative to loving job to have a working week as great as the weekend. Then the lines between Fridays and Mondays are blurred.
