Most importantly, companies are looking for soft skills like communication, leadership and strategy. Customer acquisition and sustenance roles, marketing, and sales-related jobs are growing quickly.

In 2018, those with technical background will need added soft skills to ace the competitive job market. According to Forbes, the number of tech employment opportunities is expected to increase by 12% by 2024, which will lead to more and more jobs becoming available to IT professionals.

Data scientist

According to a CIO study, data scientists will face increasing demand in 2018. He is the person who helps gather, process and analyse data. They should also be skilled in communicating those findings and offering recommendations to others in the business. They should be very skilled in programming languages, especially Python and Java.

Network administrators

They are responsible for handling LAN/WAN protocol, software and hardware. They spend a lot of time troubleshooting and typically need to be on call in case of an emergency or failure.

Data security administrators

They are responsible for defining network security requirements, ensuring all security measures are up to date, monitoring company-wide security practices and implementing security strategies.

Artificial Intelligence

As per Forbes list, this field is going to be seriously understaffed as more and more business and industry vertical adapt to AI. Specifically, finding technology leaders (CIO/CTO, head of product, etc.) who know how to credibly manage teams made up of AI, data science and innovative product specialists will prove to be difficult going forward.

Machine Learning
