Exaggeration as well as undermining of any aspect of your life can be detrimental. Sometimes, you should let things be as they are. Sometimes, you should only see certain things for what they are. This is particularly true for “work”. Now, work can be many things but for the purpose of this article, I am only talking about professional work or the work that makes you money.
There are people who believe that once you are passionate about your work, it is not work anymore. It becomes something more. There are also people who do not give ample respect and value to work in their lives. Work is less important for them. They are both wrong. Work is just work. It is something you do to make money and it is best to treat it like that.

When you start treating work as your passion, the chances are that your harmonious passion (to begin with) converts into an obsessive one. Obsessive passion can be destructive for your professional life. There is no need to elevate work in the hierarchy of your life. Let work remain work. It is great to be passionate about work, we should be. But then again, refrain from believing that your passion will convert work into something else. Something more! No, not happening. You might enjoy your work at times. You might be very hungry for success. But at the end of the day, it’s work. Nothing more!

A lot of people believe that “work is worship”. People literally worship their work because it is their work that provides for EVERYTHING in their lives. The point being, always respect the work you do. Do not undermine or downgrade the status of your work. Treat it with honor and prioritize wherever possible. When you think or treat work as lesser, the work will also give fewer returns to you! Work is and has always been a give and take relationship. Give it the time and respect it deserves. Nothing less!
Always believe in the work you do or work for something you believe in. Work will always be a crucial aspect of your life. Do not try to change its identity. Let work be work!
