Can Gluten Free Foods Be Healthy Too?

Get creative in the kitchen with gluten free food

Gluten or gluten free is a big question. It is very difficult to do; it is great especially for people with celiac disease who have gluten sensitivity. Do these people have many options left when it comes to food? You will be surprised to know that there are many gluten free dishes which are equally tasty. Going Gluten free doesn’t mean you give up on your favourite dishes; all you need to do is get a bit more creative in the kitchen

Speaking to HFT, Pankaj Gohil, who makes and serves gluten free food all across Mumbai, swears by millet. “With millets we just need to cook it right and you can make any dish you want, from Millet Biryani to Jeera Rice and even sweets,” says Pankaj. Here are some more tasty and healthy gluten free alternatives:

Cauliflower

If you’re a fan off The Big Bang Theory, then it’s likely you’ve heard of Polenta. It’s a fancier name for a dish made of cornmeal, that’s gluten free and can be served hot like oatmeal. On cooling, it hardens and can be fried, grilled or baked.

Avocado/ Coconut

When it comes to gluten free dessert alternatives, the avocado and coconut are the cream of the crop! They give the creamy consistency to food that needs cream in it. You can make the most delicious ice cream with both these ingredients which might even make you forget the store bought commercial ones.

Black Beans

There’s nothing more comforting than a chocolate brownie. Yes, you can make gluten free chocolate brownies too! Black beans are the best ingredient to give you that super fudgy, gooey brownie.

Lettuce Leaves

Lettuce Leaves as taco shells are a great alternative, not only healthy but crunchy and healthy too.

Jennifer and Javed Mallick who sell gluten free food items at their store, The Village Shop in Mumbai, told HFT. that the minute people hear gluten free food, they presume that the food will be less tasty but that’s not true, there is not much of a difference in the cakes, cookies and other gluten free baked stuff they make as compared to the regular ones. Their gluten free breads are the most selling item. It’s a healthier option and the health benefits are plenty.
