So the Kangana Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao starrer Mental Hai Kya has finally started rolling. The film is said to be wacky and even the looks of the film that the makers released earlier give a crazy and wacky feel. In one of the posters, Kangana is seen sporting a short hairdo making a funny face, while Rajkummar is seen covering nails colored in black to match his eyeballs. The film seems to be one mad ride!
Helmed by Prakash Kovelamudi, both Kangana and Rajkumar along with co-star Amyra Dastur have begun shooting for the film at a studio in Mumbai. Kangana was spotted wearing three different outfits on the first day of the shoot. The film is said to be a psychological thriller which explores the lives of people with mental disturbance. The film apparently will show people with a mental disturbance in a new light other than people looking down on them with pity.

Though not much has been revealed about the film, Kangana had mentioned in one of her interviews that in the film you’re never sure if the girl is hallucinating or what’s happening to her is for real. This kind of reveals a bit about the film being a total crazy ride.

Kangana had further revealed that the film deals with mental illness and hallucinations. She also mentioned that she chose to do the film as she had never heard of such a character earlier and Kangana being Kangana loves challenges, especially challenging roles. Another reason for her choosing the film was also because of her own personal life and the stigma attached to being different. She was often referred to as psycho or mental during that phase of her life.
However, did you know that Kangana was actually not the first choice for this film? The first choice was Kareena Kapoor. The producer, Ekta Kapoor wanted Kareena to do the film and had narrated the idea to her but as per reports, Kareena was not comfortable with the role as it had nudity and bold scenes.
The film was earlier titled Badtameez Dil and was supposed to be made five years ago. The makers have altered the old script a bit and have reworked the story. The story is said to be even bolder than before!
Well, who else but Kangana with the I-don’t-give-a-damn attitude would essay the role better?
