Ishq Di Baajiyaan From Soorma: Gulzar’s Lyrics, Diljit’s Voice. Need We Say More?

And yes...Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy’s music added to that, spells nothing but magic!

Soorma’s new track, Ishq Di Baajiyaan that was recently released is something you cannot miss! The lyrics by none other than the god of lyrics, Gulzar is sweet while the music by the trio; Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy is pleasing to the ears. The tone of the song is mellow and soft yet not boring at all

Ishq Di Baajiyaan showcases the chemistry between Diljit and Taapsee as they play hockey together. Diljit who plays hockey player Sandeep Singh said, “I am really thankful to Shaad Ali for this opportunity to sing in this film. I recently did a show with Shankar ji and I used to hear a lot of his songs that he has composed in the past. Through this film, meeting Gulzar sahib was a great thing for me because I never had any contacts to get through him. To sing a song which is written by Gulzar and music of Shankar Ehsaan Loy is a big thing for me.” The video also shows the hindrances which Sandeep had to overcome in order to accomplish the task at hand: become a hockey player.

Shaad Ali’s Soorma is biographical sports drama and it chronicles the life of Sandeep Singh. If Diljit’s Ik kudi from Udta Punjab had won hearts before, this one is sure to do so too.

Speaking about the film Gulzar said, “I would like to congratulate the people who have made this film, which is a miracle first. Sandeep for being such a huge example and for the courage he showed. My heart filled with pride and emotion when I heard his story.” About working with the trio Gulzar added; “This trio of Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy are the best and I am honoured to be working with them and also with Shaad. From Shaad I am learning the language of this generation, the cinematic language as you call it. The way language has changed and how it has become fresh. As for writing the lyrics for this film, I give credit to Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy and Shaad Ali because he explains every scene to me before I start writing and then asks me to write the song for the scene. The inspiration behind writing the songs for this film is sports and only sports and all the great sportsmen!”

Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy have given us a wide variation when it comes to music. Eshaan said that he feels the credit for that is only blessings that they have been receiving. “We came from such diverse backgrounds but can compose any kind of music. You can even give us a Chinese film, we’ll probably compose that too and try and make it a hit! But honestly, the real experience for creating music for a film is the team that we work with. In this case, Shaad fed us so well!” He jokes. He also adds that they are lucky to be working with Gulzar.

Speaking about why their music sounds so fresh he added, “ We don’t have a song bank right now, we come with a clean slate. We don’t have any songs saved and come up with new songs as per the script so that is why our songs sound so fresh each time.”

About the challenges they face as composers Shankar said, “Trying to do good work for any kind of film is challenging because detailing is what makes it challenging. It is our 22nd year of composing music for this industry and when we look back there are certain films when we look back we really feel proud of. But to be associated with a film like this is a blessing and a thing of pride and this is one milestone we will look back and feel very proud of. All I can say is that with Gulzaar sir around we feel so lucky that we can even meet him, interact with him and talk with him. It’s the biggest blessing.”

Speaking about Soorma, Loy said, “Great stories must be told and this is one such story. We are fortunate to be a part of telling that story in some way.”

Soorma is slated to hit the theatres on 13 July.
