Know All About Harshdeep Kaur The Voice Behind Raazi’s Dilbaro

The Sufi Ki Sultana has been on top of her game lately

 

She is Harshdeep Kaur, also known as Sufi Ki Sultana because of her soulful Sufi renditions. Even if you haven’t heard that name before, there is no chance you haven’t heard a song sung by her. Even as her latest track Dilbaro is winning the hearts of listeners, we want to give you a quick look at the ace singer’s illustrious career.

Harshdeep Kaur’s unique voice has been behind various hit songs in the recent past. She has established a firm footing in Bollywood, having worked with the likes of Pritam, Amit Trivedi, Vishal-Shekhar, Salim Sulaiman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Shantanu Moitra, Tanishk Bagchi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sohail Sen, and even AR Rahman.

Moreover, her career also includes a Hollywood song titled R.I.P. which was featured in Danny Boyle’s film, 127 Hours. Her career took off when she became the winner of MTV’s Video GaGa Contest back in 2001. Later on, she also won NDTV Imagine’s Junoon Kuchh Kar Dikhane Ka contest in 2008.

But her first break in Bollywood had come long before that. She had sung a song called Sajna Main Haari from the film Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai which was released in 2003. She first got to work with AR Rahman in 2006 when she sang the beautiful Ik Onkar from the film Rang De Basanti.

Once her career took off, there was no shortage great songs featuring her voice. Rockstar’s Katiya Karoon still remains one of her finest vocal performances. And the much loved Heer song from Jab Tak Hai Jaan is also a very alluring number.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, one of the biggest soundtracks of this decade, had her crooning the Encore version of Kabira, without which any modern wedding ceremony these days looks incomplete. More recently, she sang Nachde Ne Saare from the film Baar Baar Dekho which is also a brilliant wedding song.

One of last year’s biggest hits Zaalima featured Harshdeep Kaur singing alongside Arijit Singh, delivering a sizzling duet. Twist Kamariya from Bareilly Ki Barfi was also an absolute treat.

But Bollywood has not been her only domain. Harshdeep has featured in several wonderful Coke Studio songs to date. The most notable among them is of course Nirmohiya which was composed by Amit Trivedi.
