Everything about Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year 2 is new. New cast, new plot but the same premises of a fancy larger than life high school. Student Of The Year 2, is a high school romance and even before the film went on the floor, the janta were keen to know who would be the new students.
Like the prequel, Student Of The Year, where Karan introduced three new faces; Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra, in Student Of The Year 2 also, Karan will be introducing two new faces, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey. The film has a mix of action,(It has Tiger Shroff after all) drama, cat fights, and of course romance too!.
The film is a fun typical high school drama with a love triangle. It’s the kind of school that one would dream of being a part of. At the trailer launch of the film, Ananya said that she wished such a school did exist in real life too. “ It was so much fun shooting for this film. The school is a larger than life kind of school. Such schools obviously do not exist but it would be great fun to be a part of such a school in real life too.”
The first song from the film has just been launched and it’s recreated from one of the most famous songs by R D Burman. The Jaawani song is a reprised version of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani originally written by Anand Bakshi and sung by Kishore Kumar. The new Jawaani song from SOTY 2 is sung by Vishal Dadlani and Payal Dev. The additional lyrics are by Andvita Dutta.
The song has Tiger, Tara, Ananya and Aditya Seal dance on stage to the song, while the original song was picturised on Randhir Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan. From the reactions that Tiger and Aditya give, it’s quite evident that it is a dance competition. Confirming it director Punit Malhotra says, “We had this situation, of a dance competition and were wondering what kind of track to pick for it. The first Student Of The Year (2012) had Disco Deewane (a recreated version of Nazia and Zoheb Hassan’s 1981 chartbuster). So, we decided to take on an old song. Also, the situation in this film is similar. That’s why we thought it was best to keep the good luck going.”
The makers have been introducing new students one by one. Besides Tiger, Ananya and Tara, the film also stars Aditya as Manav. Aditya is a model turned actor and has done roles in films like Ek Chhotisi Love Story, where he played a teenager opposite Manisha Koirala and he played Shekhar in Tum Bin II. He’s also a world Taekwondo champion. While both Tiger and Aditya are not new to acting on the big screen. For Tara and Ananya this will be their debut in Bollywood. Tara has been a part of some television shows but Ananya is completely new to acting.
Student Of The Year 2, is presented by Fox Star Studios and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar & Apoorva Mehta. It releases on 10 May.
