An Expert’s Take On How To Take Care Of Your Hair During Monsoons

While monsoon brings cozy times with chai and pakoras at home, unfortunately it doesn’t spare much love for your hair. Most of us fall prey to the harsh weather and face various hair related issues like hair fall, frizzy hair and greasy dandruff. These problems occur due to high humidity level and high hydrogen level in the hair during the monsoon season and calls for extra care and love for the tresses.

However, you need to be even more careful and take special care if you have coloured hair. To help you maintain and flaunt lustrous and healthy coloured hair during monsoon. Speaking to Hot Friday Talks, Sameer Hamdare, Zonal Technical Manager at Streax Professional tells us hoe to care for your hair during monsoons.

Always Use A Colour-Safe Shampoo.

It is advisable to use Paraben -free as well as colour-safe shampoo. Argan oil is great for the hair. Shampoos with argan oil cleanses, nourishes, and helps protect and preserve the vibrancy of the hair colour for longer. The nourishing shampoo helps keep coloured hair soft, lustrous, bright and radiant. The shampoo ensures that hair colour doesn’t fade while washing thus locking in the hair colour and maintaining its freshness thus preventing dullness post hair colour.

Always Use A Conditioner After Hair Wash

A conditioner is a must after every hair wash, but make sure you don’t apply conditioner on the scalp. A good conditioner helps maintain moisture retention, reduces hair frizz, reduces tangling of hair and reduces the chances of colour fading in hair. Applying a conditioner rich in Argan oil again is advisable for best results.

Use Cold Water To Wash The Conditioner

Use cold water to wash the conditioner from your hair as it helps in closing the cuticle and pores in the scalp. It also helps add lustre and shine, which is due to the closed cuticles and sealing of the hair’s moisture. While warm water creates frizz, cold water tends to flatten the hair.

Try To Use Leave-In Conditioner When The Hair Is Wet

As much as it’s important to use conditioner, it’s great to use a serum when the hair is wet too. Leave in Conditioner for quick results.

Don’t Over-Wash Your Hair.

Over-washing your hair can take away the hair moisture and lead to dreaded dryness and brittleness. It can also cause fading away of hair colour too soon, hair breakage, flaky scalp, dull and lacklustre hair.

Never Style Your Hair When It Is Still Wet.

Wet hair is even more fragile and breaks very easily.

Avoid Using Blow Dryer To Dry Your Hair.

Letting hair dry naturally is good for their good health. Hair Dryers can take out your hair’s natural shin, strength and moisture.

Avoid Using Mechanical Tools

Avoid using mechanical tools such as blow dryer, iron and because these may remove or fade the colour faster. In case of an urgent situation where you need to use blow dryer or iron, it is recommended that you use a heat protector or a colour protect serum.

Sameer further adds, “I am often asked if it’s safe to colour hair during monsoon since we tend to face hair related issues in this season. My answer is that, like any other season, monsoon is also a perfect time to colour your hair. Having said that, coloured and chemically treated hair need a little extra pampering from you – so, don’t hesitate to shower all your love to your precious hair.”
