Black Panther Movie Review: A Game Changer!

Black Panther is worth spending money on! Here’s why

My expectations were extremely high for this one and it surely did not disappoint me. The film is a game changer! I was very excited about Black Panther especially because of the director, Ryan Coogler. I thought his film Creed was one of the best films, and also because he’s a huge inspiration to young filmmakers.

Story In Brief

After the death of his father, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king and also as Black Panther gets tested. Faced with treachery and danger, T’Challa must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.

Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa has done a brilliant job

Basically, it’s all about a King coming into the throne and dealing with the problems of being a new king. The film is extremely political, unlike just the action that we see in other Marvel movies. It was fun to learn about and watch the history and politics of Wakanda. It’s also about how the black community sees itself and how the others see the black community.

Michael B Jordan as the villain in Black Panther

Michael B Jordan as the villain Erik Killmonger, in Black Panther, is the best superhero villain since Dark Knight. Surprisingly, even though he is a villain, you kind of agree with him and his beliefs. Something that most films don’t do with villains.

Both the characters have many emotional moments in the film. What intrigued me was how did they manage such a range of emotions when they were mostly shooting against a green screen and most of the things shown around them were nothing but imagination brought alive by VFX! We see real people and emotions behind all the armor and the superhero suits. What I loved was to see the brother-sister bond between T’Challa and sister (Letitia Wright) which was very touching.

With Black Panther, Marvel did not make just another superhero movie but a movie which also has a relevant message. It’s about the differences between freedom and fear. It has the regular costumes and gadgets but the characters seem real, they are made to think about how they can make their lives and the world a better place.

Black Panther has an amazing supporting cast too

Amazing costumes, good humor, and a fantastic supporting cast. The colors, special effects, the characters, everything about this movie was superb and you actually don’t notice the flaws. The action sequences are gripping and believable and my favorite was when the giant rhinos charge into the middle of a battle for warriors to ride on!

What one does take home by the end of the film is not just the cool actions like all Marvel movies but the characters, the things that shaped the characters into what they have become and their beliefs.

It’s worth paying money to watch this film! Go Watch it! Just a small note: If you’ve watched Roots and loved it, you’re going to love Black Panther too!
