Amrit Maan’s Peg Di Washna Is A Song About The Desire To Have Alcohol

Yet another Punjabi song that's already a hit on YouTube

Amrit Maan’s latest Punjabi song has been creating waves on YouTube, even as it has already managed to grab a whopping 18 million views (and counting) since it was released by Speed Records on December 28. This track also features Dj Flow, and as its name suggests, it is about alcohol and the extreme desire to have it at any given time.

As ridiculous as it may sound, the song seems to be promoting the gangster lifestyle. In the video, the singer is seen merrily brandishing a gun and even firing it in the air for no apparent reason. Not to mention, the entire alcohol aspect that is at the centre of this track. And despite all this, his wife, played by Himanshi Khurana, still sticks with him without much hesitation.

And in a particularly preposterous sequence, the wife fills up a glass of alcohol for herself just to spite her husband who has a huge problem with her drinking alcohol. But there has been objectionable content in Punjabi music videos since years now. It is one of the reasons why the film Udta Punjab added the character of Shahid Kapoor in the first place.

So enough about that. Let us take a look at what the song offers. It is set to bhangra beats, and the voice of Amrit Maan is made to deliberately stand out amidst the music. Nothing extraordinary exists in the song in terms of the music. The lyrics too are very juvenile, and contain the same tried and tested content that we’ve been hearing since years.

Amrit Maan is an artist who has enjoyed immense popularity in the Punjabi music circuit. His song Bamb Jatt remains his biggest hit till date, as it has managed to garner more than 56 million views on YouTube. His other tracks like Guerrilla War, Kaali Camaro and Desi Da Drum have also created quite a stir on the video streaming platform.

But in an industry that thrives on mediocrity, as long as songs like Peg Di Washna keep coming out, the situation won’t change even a bit.
