An old favorite with some nice beats and added colors!

Kajol is back with her bubbly and effervescent persona with the comedy-drama, ‘Helicopter Eela’, where she plays a singer and a single mother. Watch out for her, “Ruk Ruk”, which is a revamping of the popular 1990s song of the same name – this time with our very own Kajol as the leading lady. Based on the Gujarati play ‘Beta Kaagdo’ by Anand Gandhi, the movie stars Kajol, Riddhi Sen, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Neha Dhupia in the lead roles.

“Ruk Ruk” is the recreated version of the Ajay Devgn-Tabu-starrer ‘Vijaypath’ (1994), which was originally sung by Alisha Chinai. Shyam Anuragi and Anu Malik are accredited for penning the lyrics and composing the tunes respectively. The song has been recreated by Raghav Sachar, and sung by Palomi Ghosh. Raghav Sachar has retained the original music of the song, but has added rap portions to make it sound contemporary and conventional.

Set in a multi-colored background that reminds you of cartoon characters, the revamped version of “Ruk Ruk” is a quirky song. The original lyrics have been retained, yet makes it look like a flirty love song in Kajol’s version. Bollywood has been following the trend of recreating hits from the 1990s, and not all of them have been successful. Yet, thanks to Kajol’s skills, you start to enjoy the recreated version – especially if you’re familiar with the original version.

What seems unoriginal in the lyrics has been made up for the flamboyant music video. Most of us can remember Tabu sizzling the roads for Ajay Devgn with her dance steps in her colourful outfits. On the other hand, Kajol begins the song in a recording studio which later explodes into a riot of colors as she gets into the mood. The eye-catching colors and Kajol’s wardrobe and makeup are something that you should watch out for, for you are totally going to fall in love with them. Of course, the choreography is different, but it only adds to the novelty of the song.

Kajol’s “Ruk Ruk” can be called a more colourful and happier version of the 1990s’ superhit song. Though it’s the recreation of an old song, Sachar has done a great job in its modern execution. We hope that “Helicopter Eela” will do just as well in the theatres when it releases on 12th October, 2018.
