December can be a difficult month for single people considering it is the month when most of your friends may get hitched. With all your social media platforms filling up with updates of your friends’ wedding and honeymoon pictures, it can be slightly overwhelming.

It is not easy being the single one in a group of couples because more often than not you will feel like a third wheel.

Here’s looking at things you can do to avoid feeling the odd man out:

Don’t Try To Hook Up Just So You Can Get Some Company

One of the worst things single people do to fit in with their couples group is trying to constantly date or hook-up so as to have company during parties. There’s no harm in making new friends and inviting them over a dinner with friends but you need not rush into a relationship just because everyone is in one. If your motives are wrong, you could end up in the worst relationships of all time and that would be a much more difficult situation to deal with than being a single friend.

Don’t Get Too Invested In Your Friends’ Relationships

There’s a possibility that everyone will open up to you about their relationship problems, hoping to get the ‘single friends advice’ and while it could be helpful, sometimes you may become prejudiced about someone or get too invested in someone’s relationship. It is best if you can keep away from all this drama.

Ask Your Friends To Stop Setting You Up With Random People

One of the biggest problem being the only single person in the group is that most of your friends will keep trying to set you up with someone so that you all can go for double dates. Make sure you tell your friends to stray away from such ideas. Match making rarely goes in the right direction and when it doesn’t it is simply annoying and can create rifts between you and your friends.

Avoid Drawing Comparisons From Your Friends’ Relationships

Being single allows you to observe other people in relationships. While you may learn a thing or two about the dos and don’ts. Try to avoid comparing things with your past relationships or expect certain things from your future relationships just because it was working for your friends. Every couple has a different rapport and hence comparing things can only make it worse.

For all you single ones out there, hopefully 2019 will be your year!
