Dating Your Junior Co-Worker? Here’s What You Should Be Aware Of

Dos and Don'ts when Dating a Junior at Office

Dating in the 21st century can be pretty complex, especially if you are dating someone who is coincidentally also a coworker and (wait for this) a junior. The awkward eye Gawking, the casual exchanges of conversations that are so not casual, the harmless flirting in the cafeteria and the sneaky hand holding in the crowd on a Monday morning meeting. Let’s not even get started on what happens in the elevator! Jokes apart, we all know how Rachel started dating Tag because he was pretty in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and how things went downhill. It doesn’t necessarily have to go awry in your case because we are here to save you!

Here’s a few tips you should follow to save your relationship

Keep things Professional

You may have to maintain an artificial distance which can be strenuous to your relationship. It’s better to compromise a little than to test the limits and constraints of your office etiquette at all times.

Be Sensitive to your Partner

If your partner is a junior chances are, you will have to keep up. Your schedules may be different; your priorities may accordingly be different as well. You will have to be respectful to your partner. Just because he/she is a junior doesn’t mean you can treat him/her like one!

Striking the Balance

Well, if you are dating a junior you don’t want to be too bossy, but you also don’t want to fancy him/her in a way that catches others’ attention. It’s all about striking the right balance and taking things slow.

Keep it Unknown

Hush hush. You don’t want every other colleague to know that your junior team member is your sweetheart. That will just mess things up and besides there is the additional unwanted social pressure.

Keep a social circle outside work

This is very important. If the only dates you go on is at the workplace canteen then your relationship is sinking. If you are dating someone who is not of your age group, its highly advisable that you get to know them outside work. They may be a completely different person. Remember how Deepika found out RanbirKapoor to be completely different in “Tamasha”?

Do not Mix Work and Personal Life

Don’t drag your worksheets to bed sheets and vice versa. You wouldn’t want to mingle the two, besides your career is far more important. Try not to let your arguments with your partner affect the decisions you make or the courses of actions you choose to embark upon at your professional field.

Plan ahead of Time

Always know what you’d do if things didn’t work out. Not saying that they won’t, but it’s better to keep an eye out, right? We remember Ajay Devgan’s story in “DilToBacchaHaiJi” don’t we? Besides you need to rescue yourself from all that misery, and you might not have friends with the same situations as Naren (Ajay Devgan) had in the movie. If the relationship becomes very serious, one of you may even decide to leave that workplace because things might get disrupted. If you do find love at your workplace, it’s better to know the risks as well.

Dating a junior from workplace can be pretty challenging. Your social circles may vary your choices, decisions; worldview and general outlook may vary too. But what the hell, who gets to decide what’s the right age for falling in love? Just listen to your heart and be your own judge!
